Denise Humphrey, Ph.D.
Dallas, TX

Welcome to my website!  I am a licensed clinical psychologist and award-winning author as well as a classical pianist.  I integrate my artistic sensibility with the science of psychology, which effectively engages individuals and couples in directing them toward their goals.  I always create an environment that is comfortable and non-threatening…a safe sanctuary for expressing inner feelings and disclosing personal concerns.  This is my continual mission.

I have a specialty in couples counseling, including unmarried couples, married couples, straight partners, gay partners, and spouses in a gay/straight marriage, professionally called “mixed-orientation relationships” (view the Specialties link).   I have obtained Advanced Level Training in working with couples at the Gottman Institute in Seattle, Washington.  In addition to treating individuals with problems in the areas of depression, anxiety, adoption, body dysmorphic disorder, and sexual identity, I also facilitate an Abandonment Recovery Support Group for individuals with abandonment issues.

A primary reason for attending therapy is to address the problem or problems that present difficulty, uncertainty, or perplexity, and that interfere with the more positive and productive life you want to live. A major goal in therapy is to identify obstacles, examine the emotional patterns that affect our thinking and behavior, and explore your neurological blueprints.  Whatever we focus on manifests as our reality, although often the area of focus is unconscious.  By facilitating the unconscious mind to become conscious, we enhance our ability to understand our thinking and feelings, and subsequently introduce new choices in our lives.

If you are a couple or individual in the Dallas, TX area struggling with issues of depression, anxiety, abandonment, body dysmorphic disorder, or sexual identity/orientation, or are married couples, unmarried couples, straight partners, gay or lesbian partners, or in a gay/straight marriage (professionally called "mixed-orientation" marriage), please contact me using the form on the contact page.
